  • ls\vtec or ls turbo?

Im getting my feet wet with this whole engine modding and what not so bare with me.

Basically I want to mod my project LS but not sure if I should go with LS/vtec or just turbo the engine alone. Now I know that an LS/Vtec w/ turbo is great but I wanted to do one first then later do the other if necessary.

If anyone has any great ides for my 91 LS, please feel free to share. Thanks!

It all depends on how much money you want to spend. I agree with sleeving the block, if funds allow it. I would also agree with turboing the LS for now just to get used to boost. Boost is very addicting. I'm 99% sure that you will want more power in the future so do everything right the first time (acl bearings, arp headstuds etc.) and you will have a fun, reliable motor.

we have a internally stock boosted ls Vtec going on its 4th year making 300 hp to the wheels no smoke no problem
ls vtec all day turbo or non turbo

You can't fix something if you don't know how it works

well the way i did it was ls/vtec first> you will pick about 30 ponys right of the back it was the chipper way for me to get more power... while you enjoy that little power you could pile up all your parts to go turbo. expend the coin, dont go for the ebay kit, for me it was a very expensive mistake( other people had better luck than me) ls/vtec turbo. Ones you finish the whole thing you will ask your self it was worth the effort and money... the anser will be NO but every time you hear the blow off valve and the boost coming IT WILL BRING A BIG F-----NG SMILE TO YOUR FACE enjoy it... job well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i see it as less problems too.. but thenon- vtec head adds a lot of "desired" aspects left behind. better port flow etc on vtec heads.. ls heda was made for nothing but pure MPG

Torque and cheap. Like the kid says hes new to the game and doesnt know what he wants. Mikey look at what u went thru to try to get ur car ls-vtec and still isnt. Loads of money spend, countless hours of research and trial and error. NOT TO MENTION putting your car backtogether in blistering cold weather :p:p But see if we boosted ur car mike itd be alot easier than Ls-Vtecin it becuase of the simple fact of time and labor. I didnt mind tackling that with u but the best bang for the buck is to boost the LS. Get a feel for it (trust me it has some nuts) then go vtec. Dont blow your sack all at once and not know how to drive it! The only downside to turbo cars is the maintenece!

ls vtec is nice but expensive if you decide to build the motor,,you can slap on a turbo but whats the use of it if you cant get its full potential..turbo has 2 many maintenance problems as we all kno but is fun and moves really good..so i would say that its your preference..me i would do the lsvtec since you will waste about the same money to build the motor and buying a turbo kit..so u can get a turbo and be stock or build a all motor ls/vtec tuned spanking a low boosted turbo ls..just my opinion..
