bseries vtec issue

i have a 98 gsr stock with an exhaust...oil levels r good, just changed plugsand cleaned out the vtec selenoid


car will pull through vtec in 1st but at higher gears vtec will break up and sometimes will fall on its face, throwing a p1259 for vtec malfunction

any info will help, thanks in advance

That code usually comes around when the solenoid is leaking either internally or externally or even sometimes if the engine has a pressure drop due to many different things.

I would go get a cheap oil pressure gauge mechanical and run the car into the VTEC range and see if the pressure is around 50+psi.

It could also be a bad VTEC pressure switch.

You could also test your solenoid. Easy to do if you have jumper wires. Power your solenoid with 12 v then ground it. You should hear a clicking sound. If not then replace it.
