The same way they get stuck closed and over heat they can get stuck open or dissolve and make the car run cold.

exactly oem thermostats get stuck open when bad so instead of the motor overheating it runs cold and when the motor is cold VTEC doesnt work....im not 100% sure this is it but its something im considering that could be the problem

If the engine temp is below a certain temp Vtec will not activate. Unless you have a chipped ecu and disable vtec coolant temp check.

you seem to be having trouble with the motor... just sell it to me and ill give you a mint b18b1, so that way you don't have to worry about vtec anymore.

check that t-stat, and also double check your oil, you may be low or have a leak you didn't notice.

Knock seansor ect seansor..u have a cell light on..Chek all your seansor good any loose wires and all that..good luck..Oo I bet it's in the head take cams out and make sure your lma's and that shaft that holds the rockers in place make sure them oil gallies are open the the lined up holes one of them could be of alined up..check all that out..I had got a civic a few weeks ago and after a week I took all the valve train out and notice one of the pin screw that lines the rocker shaft wasn't there..I don't know what's the name of thees perticulor parts but I'm just thinking out loud of the name of the piece..if all your sensors are good no cell light.then I would really Chek the valve train out.its importain that the shafts that the rockers are on must line up there the oil holes they line up to the rockers for vtec..that could be your problem..
