after reading the whole thread, im gonna say its crank angle sensor related. Thats whats used for detecting misfires.

When you say it goes into limp mode, what exactly do you mean? 3k rev limit?

either way, I don't know what the hell the problem is with this thing, tho I am not really allowed to play with it. There is a bit of drama there with my girl so I keep my distance but feel bad none the less. So the most I was able to do was check the codes in a parking lot with a pair of pliers. In the end I don't think its really my issue but I'd like to help.

I've never heard of a hydraulic cam needing valve adjustments either but without me able to take things apart, or run my own tests I have no idea and decided to post up here for ideas.

its unlikely anything to do with the valve train.

Id throw in a new dizzy, or a borrowed good one and go from there.

don't know the rev limit but it idles high and 12-1500 iirc, and the CEL is on. I was thinking either crank or cam position sensors but don't they usually throw codes of their own?

Thinking about it, when I cleared the codes, it did idle at normal RPM but didn't have any indication that there was something wrong. The CEL came on and the idle RPM creeped up and it ran sluggish. Which would seem more like a sensor, but like I said, I spent a max of 20minutes on this thing and I have never dealt with a problematic Honda before.

if its causing a drivability issue, start with the dizzy. Then if the code comes back, disconnect the crank angle. It will throw a cel for that, but the drivability should be normal.

I know the cap and wires have been replaced, they looked brand new. other than that, I haven't been able to dig any deeper... she did say that it runs a lot better now that the shop did what they did but its still throwing codes, idling high and running sluggish. Its just not stalling anymore.

all i see there are people adjusting there valves and not 1 report of a burnt valve.

And of course valves that are too tight are going to burn but def. wouldnt say they are known for that.

If CRVs are known for burning valves, than LS's must be too.

Check plugs, firing order, injectors, compression check,if valve adustment hasnt been done...it should be its way overdue....may have a burnt valve or even a dead cylinder good luck...if it were me id take it back to the scum bags who ripped her off

b20 do infact burn valves. if its going into a limp mode its electrical issue. If they never actually changed the dizzy i would deff start there.

where the hell is this crank angle sensor? I have looked all over the interwebs and can't figure it out. Is it really in the front behind the crank pulley? Do I have to pull the crank pulley off to get to it?
