  • CR-V with ignition issues?

OK, first I wanna say hi, never posted before, been on a few honda sites but this is a first for this site. I have heard good things so I thought to give it a go.

OK, so my friend has a 2000 CR-V with nearly 100K on the clock. She recently had issues with it stalling on her but it would start right back up, CEL is on of course. She took it to some shop in Hartford off wethersfield ave, she said it was real sketch ball. So they wanted 800 to do new distributor, wires, and plugs. Her parents insisted the shop do something but not 800 worth so they did 500 cap, rotor, wires, and plugs. Complete rip but whatever.

So now she doesn't have the stalling out issue anymore but she does have an issue with the CEL coming on and the car going into limp mode. I checked the codes and it said misfire cylinders 2-4 or 1-3, I don't remember. I reset the codes and noticed that a ground wasn't connected to the head. I reconnected that but she still has the issue with the car running like crap and the CEL coming on.

I heard that it may need a valve adjustment, which it has never had (don't know if that's something B-series needs at 100K) and its the original timing belt, which obviously needs some tending to.

    any help would be appreciated.

holy shit $500 for plugs, wires, cap n rotor. I'd look more into it. Do a compression test. Make sure the retarded shop put the plug wires on in the correct order and that the firing order isn't wrong.

Yea, tell me about it. If the firing order was wrong, I doubt the car would even start, eh?

if its throwing a cylinder misfire in every cylinder change your spark plugs the shop probably bsed her and didnt do it... if the firing ordeer was wrong you would hear it misfire so doubt its that....

did the wires and cap look new?

possibly could be your rotor as well shops tend to go the cheap route and fix what they believe is the issue and charge you for more lol

I had a misfire issue and it ended up being the injectorz clogged... A scan tool is ur best bet here, and after that google becomes your best friend

Alright, I just got back from a small 5 day get away, and she is still complaining, so we will see next time I see her.

It does, from what I remember, tick kinda loud, don't know what these cars are supposed to sound like but it didn't seem right. I am trying to convince her to get a valve adjustment, which at 95K, and if it really needs it every 30K, is way over due for.

She also has the potential to get a nearly brand new high mileage passat for near peanuts, so I am trying to talk her into that, and see how much she will pass her CR-V onto me for.
