  • Vtec not poppin like it should

    i have 3 questions for everyone...for a B18C...

    1. Whats the heaviest weight oil that can safely be used?
    2. Vtec sometimes pops hard and pulls really nice and strong and sometimes does not pop and pull like it should...what can cause this and whats the fix???
    3. What clutch and flywheel combo does everyhing suggest?

    P.M. me with answers if possible. thanks for all the help...#2 is the big one.

    Clean out your vtec solenoid, clutch setup all depense on power goals, and oil i just use 10w30

      it either engages vtec or it doesnt, there arent different levels of how "hard" it goes in.

      so does it cross over sometimes, and sometimes it doesnt?

      it needs like 30psi minimum to lock in, so make sure your oil pressure is good. check your VSS also, if your speedo doesnt work, vtec wont either unless you have a chipped ecu with VSC disabled.

        yup i agree with diz guys ....but it could b dat da vtec selenoid its going bad....or like da otha guy said its not trowing enough oil presure....soo ill recomend get an vtec selenoid and c how dat goes !!! good luck boy

          i agree with them ^^^ but also check your oil pan to make sure that it is not bent in..g/l

              wow dullard. vtec either pops or it doesnt. ttheres no degree of excellence when it engages/ either ur tune sucks, or u clutch sucks or ur motor is hurt.

                  Motor is fresh. The tune is a stock P73 ecu running the JDM B18C-r Car pulls fine kevin. You just arent used to it yet.

                    thanks so far. i gotta try cleanin out the solenoid, that seemed to help one of my friends. i was tired when i wrote the post so i kinda messed up. vtec pops all the time yes. i know i need a clutch. when i was on rt.8 yesturday and i was in third and vtec popped you felt it pull harder on my way home and i did the same thing as i did earlier it did'nt pull as it did earlier in the day. and nick i drive the car everyday so yes i am use to it by now.

                    as for the oil ? i use 10w30 right now it and it runs fine just burns it but it seems everyone i kno wit a DOHC motor burns oil. the compression is mint, 240 cross the 4 cyl.

                    as for the clutch ? im sticking with just an exhaust and in intake and stock ecu and thats it. im thinkin of going with another ACT like i had on my stock motor but i dont know which one to go with for this one.

                          oil pans not bent at all. im gonna clean out the vtec solenoid and see if that helps. tonight it was poppin perfect and you can feel it pull like crazy. what should i use to clean the solenoid out with? brake clean?

                            brake clean works mint,,sounds like something is interfering wit ur tune somehow,,like a badd connection sum where
                            theres no replacment for boost:)
