  • coolant issue help asap

ok so im driving the hatch yesterday and smoke starts coming out of my overflow tank and there is coolant everywhere,,,,,but the thing is my heat was cold inside the car and my lower coolant hose isnt that hot....and when i drove it home it was getting toward the red line on the gauge....now is this my radiator or my thermostat????

What really sucks is that the temp indicator is a slow acting gauge. So it was most likely hot for a longer period of time than you think.

If the radiator is still good, then I would assume you possibly blew the headgasket.

I would assume that the car is turbo'd from your avatar and that could be the reason for a possible head gasket failure.

most likely you did not have any coolant in the car.

LS-V's are notorious for this. You're probably burning coolant somewhere in the head, check oil for milky water like consistancy.

Also, do you have an after market intake manifold? check the coolant fitting that goes throught he manifold and into the head.

Could it be a stuck thermostat. That would make it over heat, MAYBE cause it to back out the overflow tank and not get any coolant to the heater core and you wouldn't get any heat. Just my .02

i dont think its your radiator, they dont clog out of the blue. you prob didnt bleed the coolant lines good enough. im assuming you just poored the coolant in untill it looked full, it will seem full untill the t-state opens then it wont be full, let the car warm up so the t-stat opens then fill it again.

air in the systme is one of the number one reasons for this type of overheat...second to bad thermostat and cloged rad is rare unless its got soem high miles on it
