  • Audio question: need advice on RMS and Gain control

Whats up CTV, I have a couple questions about RMS and Gain control (high vs low) to the audio guys on the site. Im running an Alpine deck with an Alpine plug-and-play power pack amp which converts the headunit amp to 45 rms per channel. Im also running 4 Type S 6 1/2s that have a rms rating of 80. So im wondering if ill run into an issues by having a lower rms rating from the amp than the speakers. I heard of people recommending matching or exceeding the rating. Also, the amp has a low and high gain switch on the back and have no clue what to set it at. Any info and advice would definetely help out, thanks in advance.

You wouldnt have any problems there and if you exceed the speaker rms rating you can risk blowing em....amd the gain you can mess with it till you get the volume you want from the speakers

I agree with em 02 but it is always a good rule of thumb to match the amp to the speakers you are running...I run my Focals off my head unit power but going to hook up a amp to power them...

Thanks for the input guys, just got off the phone with the store I bought the deck and amp from, they said I should be all set and recommended the gain to be set on high

you'll have no problems doing so as long as you arent clipping power isnt the cause of speakers blowing clipping is and set your amp to full pass rather than just high i've been messing with that lately and high gives it more of the higher range of fqs and full pass will throw some midbass in there
